Struggling Barbara Boxer (D-CA) Campaigns on Abortion – Is it Truly a Social Conscious or a Sure-Fire Fundraiser that Motivates?

Barbara Boxer Uses Abortion Issue in Desperation - image Politico

FromPolitico: Barbara Boxer, in a rally at a Hollywood, CA hotel, claimed that her opponent, Republican Carly Fiorina, “would become a sure Senate vote to overturn Roe v. Wade.” Apparently, Boxer is unaware that neither Chamber of the House, Senate or Congress, has the right to overturn any Supreme Court decision. The only “danger” to a “woman’s right to choose” would be the people’s hiring of a President, who would then have the right to appoint Supreme Court justices, which are first vetted and approved by the Senate. The abortion football, like the “gay marriage” football, have become nothing more or less than political cards, played to the public and used with no real intent or power, for that matter, of moving the debate forward or solving any issue. When someone declares their personal belief in life or abortion, one is merely stating an opinion and unless than someone is sitting on the highest court in the land, it is a moot point.

Therefore, Boxer’s logic (and any other politician who tries this tactic) follows that the voters in California, or elsewhere where that tired card is played, feel that “protecting the rights of the unborn” or “fighting for a woman’s right to choose”, at this point in the game, should trump the fact that there is high unemployment, and major entitlement programs upon which she (and her like-minded peers), voted upon in order to suck the life out of our nation. Social issues come into play when the economy is not in “tatters”, and when all is “rosy”. What Boxer, and other politician’s in her position (danger of losing a job, and joining the 9.6% of the nation (low estimate by some economists) who are no longer employed) are left with, after either knowingly, or worse going to incompetence, unknowingly took part in the legislation that caused this mess, are the “scare tactics of social issues”. Regardless of Fiorina’s personal beliefs, or O’Donnel’s, or Witman’s, or Pelosi’s, or Murry’s, or any one of the women running who are either pro-life or pro-abortion, the women (or men) who count are sitting on the Supreme Court.

It is, as of the present time, a women’s right to choose whether or not to end the life of a child in utero, however, those who might matter politically are at the State level, not the Federal level, and would move legislation forward that would either limit or increases access to abortion, and those laws are then challenged – in the courts. So, in reality the politician’s one must be most concerned with, specifically on the issue of abortion, are those who are applying for jobs as State Representatives and State Senators and Governors who would sign into law a bill on the subject – however, no state can trump the Supreme Court. No one, in any position in a State or Federal office, now, or in the foreseeable future, has the ability to overturn anything.

It is the duping of those who have no clue when it comes to civics, that “career” politicians’ hope to prey upon. It is the collective body politic, that would stand to move an issue one way or the other, and the time it takes to do so is obviously lengthy. Roe vs. Wade was decided upon in in 1973 and to date, no one politician or individual has brought a successful appeal forward to the only body upon which the issue is adjudicated. It is especially shameless when a woman in the political arena, either pro-or anti abortion, uses this issue to campaign, without specifically acknowledging the steps necessary to move it forward, and either their or their oponnents very minor role in the process, they are not feminists, they are merely taking advantage of other women.

The Democrats, who are clearly in danger of losing their majority, cannot “man up” (how sexist) and campaign on their records – records which the voting public who are motivated by the economy are clearly aware. Wild claims, made in front of clueless celebrities, with the backing of the nation’s foremost lobby on abortion (N.A.R.A.L.) smack of desperation and an entreaty for hard cash – which Boxer will need to clear her debts after Nov. 2nd.

Press Decries Gender Gap in GOP Leadership with Murkowski’s Primary Loss – Looking to the Future – Fiorina, McMahon, Ayotte and Angle

From Politico: a new article entitled: “Senate GOP's new gender” speaks to the primary loss of Alaska’s Linda Murkowski (R-AK), as if she were the last capable woman in the GOP in the Senate. It was the leadership role that Murkowski had in the Senate, that the author at Politico is apparently mourning, and the fact that Collins (R-ME) or Snow (R-ME), or Hutchinson (R-TX) are the only three GOP women left to choose from.

Apparently, it’s the standard GOP equals old white men cry of Progressives that is understood in the context of this article. One must say – it is a tad too early to project the makeup of the Senate as of November 3, 2010, but one can bet that there will be several qualified women joining Snow, Collins and Hutchinson.

The author goes on to speak of the gap between the two political parties, noting that the Democrats have twelve women to choose from, including Barbara Boxer – which said numbers may be lower as of the 3rd. The implication: Democrats field more women candidates, which is, in itself, not exactly true.

An honest assessment of the women who are poised to take Senate Seats, also includes several who are more than capable of assuming leadership roles, not least among them, Carly Fiorina (R-CA) who is now leading Barbara Boxer in the polls (See Real Clear Politics) In addition, one has to pay close attention for former business executive Linda McMahon (R-CT) who is closing a huge gap between her opponent, Richard Blumenthal, who is not without baggage. Although there are no September polls posted, it would appear likely that McMahon will have gained another point or two in the past month – and that this race will be tight, but winnable for the GOP.

In New Hampshire, one finds Kelly Ayotte with a lead against Democrat Paul Hodes and finally, one has to seriously look at the Nevada race, where Harry Reid after pouring millions into the Nevada sand is still struggling to gain traction against Tea Party/Republican candidate Susan Angle. Polls from August show them at a statistical dead heat.

Therefore, the real story is that there are more women running for Senate on the GOP ticket and that, as a feminist, is heartening to say the least. The fact that a woman runs, and loses is no shame either; it is that competence and gender do not go hand in hand. From this perspective, a vote based on gender without concern to qualifications is no better or worse than a vote based on ethnicity or race, for the same reasons. That said, it sure is heartening to see these women, conservative women, running successful campaigns against entrenched men (for the most part – exception: Boxer).
One has to wonder how well Politico will handle the ensuing presidential contest for 2012, where odds are not out of the question that Sarah Palin will face Hillary Clinton (not Barak Obama) for the Presidency.

Courtesy of Breitbart TV, the first Hillary for President 2012 advertisement. How many democrats feel that had the choice of Super Delegates been different, their party would not be faced with the massive losses this November, and the nation, as a whole, would be in better shape? Of course, at this point, it is all supposition, but nothing pleases more than a progressive pundit (female at that), being forced to choose between the most Progressive President this nation has seen, and a Centrist Democrat and former Goldwater Girl come the primaries of 2012. One has to recall the venom these same journalists who scream disparity for women, used to push their own Hillary Clinton under the bus, in order to elect Barak Obama.

Friday June 11, 2001 - Harry Reid and Obama - Polls Show Downward Spiral – Fiorina’s Comment on Boxer’s Hair: Press is Shocked!

Harry Reid with Obama - Polls: Public: So Long and Thanks for all the Debt! Photo from votingfemale blog

Harry Reid (D-NV), has every intention of fighting for his Senate Seat, and was hoping the results of the Republican Primary this past week, would aid him in that fight. Reid, who feels somehow that his views are mainstream, was hoping that Angle would be the nominee, and he did get his wish. The problem: new polls out by Rasmussen Reports show Reid trailing Angle by 11 points. The poll results, Angle at 50% and Reid at 39%, should Reid run the negative campaign he is planning, it will in all likelihood widen the gap for Angle. According to the Washington Post Angle is now the DNC’s top target, , however, Reid’s favorability has remained consistently low, and regardless of which opponent he has faced in polling, fell behind by double digits. At this point in the game it is apparent that Nevada is bent on ridding themselves and the nation of Reid. Additionally, the DNC has multiple incumbents in real trouble across the country - it is surprising that they would throw the majority of their weight at a race which, for all intents and purposes, has little hope of having a positive outcome. The DNC should check Vegas odds prior to dropping a dime in any race.

The President is not faring much better, as Gallop polling now shows a 44% overall job approval, the bloom is off the rose. The BP oil spill has the nation fixated; CNN’s has been blaring daily updates. The Coast Guard, is now in charge of the operation. The slow response, despite pleas from contractors and engineers who attempted to meet with the administration and BP officials days after the gulf rig exploded, only add to the aura of incompetence surrounding the administration. Add to Gulf Oil woes, the jobless rate is now seen as permanent bad news fixture. Bloomberg news: “more new claims were filed last week than anticipated”.

Past comparisons to former one-term, peanut-farming President, Jimmy Carter, are now unfair to Carter, who, although equally incompetent in dealing with the economy and international crisis, did not place the nation’s future in as grave a fiscal danger as Obama and his current Congress. Additionally, Carter remained scandal free, whereas, questions concerning offering candidates for office, high profile jobs if they would step aside during primaries, as still making headlines for the Obama administration. The ranking Republican on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, is calling for a Hatch Act investigation. Lest anyone forget, the Blagojevich trial is in place; in recent testimony by Blagojevich aids, it was indicated that there was conversations between the Governor’s office and the Obama camp regarding the barter of Senate seats.

Last but not least: the California Senate Contest has taken a catty turn. In a fashion critique caught on tape, no less, Republican Nominee Carly Fiorina, was heard (on open mic) suggesting sitting Senator and opponent, Barbara Boxer, update her hairstyle. This, has of course, made national headlines, including a Washington Post analysis. The point - who cares – the Press did everything it could to demean Hillary Clinton during the 2008 presidential primaries, specifically attacking her appearance, and followed suit (actually ramped up the rhetoric) a bit when it came to Sarah Palin. Now, when a Republican nominee remarks on her competitions hairstyle, it’s a “big deal”. Apparently this beats covering the next mess over at the White House.

Sharon Angle Takes Nevada Primary – Set to Oust Harry Reid – Women Dominate from Arkansas to California

Sharron Angle will take on Reid in Nevada - image Examiner.com

In May of 2009, Sharron Angle formed an exploratory Committee for the State of Nevada Seat held by Harry Reid. - yesterday Ms. Angle won a three way contest to become the Republican candidate in Nevada. Engle, who is an anti-tax conservative, will face incumbent Harry Reid, the current Senate Majority Speaker in November. Reid has noted that he is pleased it is Angle he must face which appears to be false bravado, given Reid's popularity is close to House Speaker, Nancy Pelosi’s. Apparently, Reid plans to capitalize on Ms. Angles “extreme views” on taxes, adhering to the U.S. Constitution, and eliminating bloated, dysfunctional and irrelevant bureaucracies within the Federal Government. Reid plans to go heavy on the attack ads, according to the Las Vegas Sun: “On Tuesday, Reid’s advisers telegraphed their coming campaign, saying Angle’s “dangerous ideas are wrong for Nevada.” Once her victory was apparent, the Nevada Democratic Party issued a news release: “Sharron’s ‘Wacky’ Angles: Dangerous Ideas Nevada Can’t Afford.”

It’s all about the “Tea Party” – Angle who has embraced the Tea Party philosophy of less government, fewer taxes, self-reliance and a healthy respect of the Constitution from the beginning, does have some interesting ideas about how to cut waste and spending. That said, how Ms. Angle’s views may seem right at home, when compared to Reid’s mono-rail plans, or the fact that Nevada is faced with some of the nation’s highest foreclosures as well as unemployment. For this reason alone, Angle is seen by Reid as an easy target (and the media and pundits are following suit). Angle has the endorsement of the Club for Growth, which is a fiscal conservative organization, and the Tea Party has a strong base in Nevada. Counting the Tea Party candidate out before the race begins is a bit naive on anyone’s part. Reid, at this point, is going the road of Tom Daschle – one can, this being a Nevada race, bet the House on that one – Reid’s proposed Negative advertising should work well for Angle. (See how well that worked for Coakley in Massachusetts.) As the economy shows no signs of improving in the near future (See the possibility of a double-dip recession, which will herald double digit inflation (already taking place when one looks at fuel and food – See late 1970’s and Jimmy Carter) , the Nevada battle should be interesting to say the least.
To learn more about Angle visit: SharronAngle.com

Over in Arkansas, Blanche Lincoln won the Democrat primary, proving that the extreme views of organized labor and Move-on.org are somewhat marginalized outside of the White House. (Pay attention here, Senator Reid). It was a race where either candidate stands to lose in November against Republican, John Boozman . The latest polling has had Boozman leading either Lincoln or the rejected Halter by double digits. Lincoln was supported by former Arkansas native son, President Bill Clinton, while Halter enjoyed the endorsement of the SEIU and again, Move-on.org, otherwise known as the George Soros Foundation. The deep rift in the Democrat Party (Socialists – i.e. Progressives – versus – mainstream viewpoint Democrats) is showing itself across the nation. See the recent special election in PA-12th, where the Democrat ran on Republican Issues, distancing himself as much as possible from the White House).

In California both Meg Witman and Carly Fiorina won their respective primaries. Fiorina will face embattled incumbent Barbara Boxer - as headlined in the Chronicle articles Fiorina Poised to Make History.

It is good to be a Conservative Woman, (including Blue Dog Blanche Lincoln, who just happens to be on the wrong side of the aisle in the upcoming election.)

Note to former Goldwater Girl, Hillary Clinton, the road to 2012 is paved in history.

As America Turns – Polls Suggest The Political Pendulum Swings in Favor of Conservatism in Government - Reid, Dodd, Boxer - Out - Analysis

Several polls released over the past two months suggest that, against all odds (as purported by the media, pundits and the current political party in charge), there will be a change or elimination of Party control over one or both houses of Congress in 2010. The polling to date, which is reminiscent of polls taken in 2005-2006 and again in 2007-2008, shows either a total or growing lack of support for an incumbent – which is not historically unusual when one political party controls all branches of government.

High profile Democrats who are most likely to be replaced in 2010 include:
Barbara Boxer (Senate: D-CA) who is holding onto a narrow margin against a yet-undeclared, Carly Fiorina. Fiorina, former Hewlett Packard CEO, is currently polling at 41% to Boxers 45% (Rasmussen, an increase over a previous poll taken in March (Boxer 47%/Fiorina 38%).

Harry Reid, Senate Majority Leader, (D-NV), is most likely to be replaced by Republican Sue Lowden, who is polling ahead of Reid by 6 points (and has yet to formally enter the race). Reid’s popularity with Nevada voters is low - 45% of voters polled would replace him.

The list from Real Clear Politics (a compilation and average of several pollsters per candidate) is telling:

  • Chris Dodd (Senate: D-CT), is trailing Republican Rob Simmons by 1 to 9 points (Quinnipiac), the only discrepancy is a Daily Koss Poll which gives Dodd 5 points over Simmons.

  • Christ handily bests Democrat Kendrick Meek in Florida’s Senate Race by 18 to 31 points.

  • In Illinois, Mark Kirk, Republican, is besting incumbent Burris for the Senate by 34 points, the Daily Koss poll suggests that Burris is besting Kirk by 7 points (a pattern is developing here).

  • In Pennsylvania, Toomey (Republican) bests Specter (former Republican turned Democrat) by 12 points (Koss has Specter beating Toomey by 5 points).

  • Of interest, general polling regarding current issues also suggests a turn towards conservatism:
Regarding the proposed Health Care Reform 54 % of American’s feel passing no reform would be better than the current congressional plan., and a new Gallup Poll suggests that American’s view themselves more as conservatives in all 50 states.

Some may suggest that this trend towards Republicans and Conservatism in general has been brought about by the current administrations programs, which run left of center, which may, in part, be true. That said, with the thirst for change constant in most American’s minds, those who don’t eat, breathe and live for politics (the majority) may be viewing the political arena in terms of a reality television show. As the personalities of politician’s morphed into “Star Status”, the opportunity for the general public to become disenfranchised rose proportionately. Once the charisma of any given personality loses its luster, the public turns to the next “contestant”, literally voting the “star” (incumbent) off the island. Although some progressives in education assert that control of the masses (and control of the votes), by dumbing down America, would ensure a change in government; the miscalculation of the appeal of quick changes and celebrity fascination with quick dismissal, never entered into the equation. More to the point, the American Independent Voter, once again, believed a political campaign promises (or slew of promises), and as these promises evaporated, or have not taken place at lightning speed (which would be impossible); they have shifted focus to the opposing party.
