Obama Address to Public School Children – Parents Growing Opposition Cause Schools to React – It’s a Matter of Public Trust.

School districtsacross the nation have been fielding calls from parents who would prefer their children not view the President’s speech next week. According to Politico’s article, the problem lies in the fact that “Conservative” parents feel that they would prefer to vet the speech prior to allowing their children to participate.

First, it is unprecedented that the President of the United State’s would make a speech for the entire United States Public School System. Barack Obama has, to date, failed to instill trust in the general public as regards to financial, health and welfare and foreign policy issues – therefore, it is no wonder that parents who are not politically left of center might be a bit suspicious of this type of address; viewing it more as political indoctrination rather than a simple “message from the President”.

Perhaps a better, and less costly to the taxpayers, method would have been to send a memo to public school teachers encouraging their students to watch the Presidents address before Congress, while taking this opportunity to teach a bit of civics, and include the opposition response/remarks at the end, for perspective. Students would then be able to discuss the speech (message) in class.

The charge is that the President might try to indoctrinate the children (although they are already indoctrinated as most educators are of a liberal mindset and teach politics in every class, regardless of subject or age – ask a child, any child.) and the most recent “evidence” came from Utah. The Salt Lake Tribune recently reported on parents who were upset because a video was shown to students in the public school system in Framingham. The video, featuring the President and several A and B List Celebrities, had the following theme: “Service to Obama, as the President”, rather than Service to the Country. It goes without saying that if this video were shown in Salt Lake, it is also being shown in municipalities and towns across the nation, with children most likely not talking with parents about the content. (Video available with SLTribune Article and On You-Tube). This, followed by an address to the nations children by the President, would appear to be – indoctrination of sorts, asking American Children to offer allegiance to a person, not to the nation (see John F. Kennedy: “Ask not what your country can do for you….”).

To be fair, the video will be broadcast on C-Span, which would allow the parent to tape, and or watch the speech, and discuss any and all aspects with their children.

Tina, I believe he is a hard core believer in marxism/socialism and in his own persona to convince people of the correctness of his beliefs.

He is running into major headwinds but will never modify the convictions. He can only do speech after speech after speech and rely on his persona, his charisma.

This is the most pathetic President I have ever seen but it is more a reflection on voters than him. The majority of the voting public unfortunately has a "range of the moment" mentality and so we go ever deeper in debt, ever deeper in victimization, ever deeper in destroying any sense of private property or reward for work ethic. It is unbelievable how quickly we have been corrupted.

Between the "government school system" educating people to be idiots and the media supporting blatantly marxist doctrine real hope is fading fast in my view.

The only thing that would save this nation now is a constitutional convention. The common values are no longer there so a new arrangement has to be made.

I give you credit for "fighting the good fight" but we need something radical to happen in order to reconnect with a brilliant philosophy of government initiated a couple of hundred years ago.

Hi Ralph,
I agree with your initial perception of Barack Obama’s belief structure (he was involved with the progressive party in Illinois, prior to his election to the Illinois House – they endorsed him – understanding that people align themselves when they are younger with groups that are liberal – and change as they get a bit more wisdom and age – it is not always the case. I’m not certain that he personally believes that his charisma or what-ever, is that capable of winning hearts and minds – I believe he is over-exposed so to speak, and that the majority of people will be tuning into other cable networks if they see he’s giving yet “another” speech - other than the hard core political junkies (guilty) – his interruption of prime time for networks who are already struggling, to make the case, yet again, for an issue that has been discussed ad naseum and rejected out of hand by the populace – goes to intellect and understanding of the basic drive of our society – “entertainment” – which is apparently lacking – what concerns me is that, should he honestly have a great idea, or something of import to deliver – it will go virtually unnoticed (except for those political junkies I mentioned).

Ralph, I have heard others express similar views regarding the government – and I respectfully agree to disagree – We did have the same situation under Carter (at that time, recall, no internet, or alternative networks) – and the people simply went to the polls and changed the nature of the government – I will say, now, what I see as somewhat different, is the shift in perception of moderates to a sharp right in conservative think and outrage – there is a general lack of trust in the delivery of news, those who would never have watched “Faux” News, are now tuning in (see their Neilson numbers week after week) – and the same goes for talk radio and certain internet sites – I believe that this will translate into votes – at the polls – in large numbers – and a rejection of those who’s ideals run contrary to the Constitution – It is a painful process (having lived through those Carter years), but it is part of our process – and it is what makes the nation great – we can choose a President, or member of Congress, and should their performance be less than stellar – then we simply choose another – speaking of those moderates – they are seriously unhinged over the present state of the nation – take those who are showing up in droves at “Tea Party” events, and Town Hall forums – they are regular American’s, not part of any political party, or one of the “elite” – this is what is different from Carter’s presidency – that and actual conservatives are no longer “silent” – (I’m not talking about any political party driving any particular group, rather the individual – and Republican’s specifically, who always used to be “silent” on issues, are now rather outspoken (to say the least) and they (the populace) do not care if it is a Democrat or Republican brand either. Ralph, I just call it like I see it, it’s a personal diary of my opinion, open to debate – I can be partisan, but, again, should a politician, regardless of party, actually perform for their constituents, then they have my support. As to progressives within the system, see the drive towards Charters schools, and optional educational choices (private schools and homeschooling), in larger numbers. We had a Charter school open here, in our city, they had to hold a lottery – the interest was that high. I hazard to guess that if vouchers were offered, private institutions of learning, that taught subject matter instead of political think – would be waiting list only. (See DC), I believe that progressives within the educational system have “dummied down” the American student, but, again, the rise of alternative news sources, the sophistication of our youth, makes one wonder if the “pitch” will continue to work, or if the bloom is off the proverbial rose. I’d say the later. The battles were won; it is the war that has been lost – the rejection of ideals that are counter to the principals upon which our nation was founded. Have faith Ralph.
