At one time, during the 1950’s and 1960’s one knew there was deep-rooted racism, and that racism existed from the north to the south, west and southwest, east and northeast. There were those who wanted change, and those who fought for change, and those who saw the changes taking place. There were political party divides, and the Civil Rights Movement was the defining moment of the greatest generation in concert with the baby boomers.

Then power and greed and political corruption got the best of our combined leadership – black, white, Republican, and yes, especially Democrats. Watching everyone become pigeonholed by race or gender over the decades, while seeing opportunities disappear, has been a heartbreaking event. More so, perhaps, because there were those who believed that it was no longer necessary to concern oneself with those pockets of racists or sexists that we had evolved into a society that would not stand for one person being less than another – having equal opportunities.

Then politics stepped in and assured all of us that this cancer not only still existed it was prevalent, and then the Us vs. them began.

It needs to end, and perhaps, just perhaps with dedicated individuals looking about at the destruction of our great society, taking matters to heart and doing good work by calling out those corrupters, will bring enthusiasm to all of us to work as one society again. Call it idealism or something found in several documents, not least among them the one that guides our nation’s laws – the Constitution.

Obama believes Poll Numbers down due to Racism – Yet, other factors may be driving decline in approval.

From Bloomberg.com, comes an article where the President, Barack Obama, suggests that racism is playing a factor in him decline in approval. Gallup currently has his approval rating at 39%. (Bloomberg).

One might suggest that it is not racism, rather the economy, political ideology differences, and numerous “scandals”, that have brought his poll numbers to a new low. If one is to compare the vote in both 2008 and 2012, one gains some insight into the “race card” being played out on every conceivable scenario. Preface that by the fact that yes, racism exists, in all forms, whether one is African-American, Asian, Hispanic, or white (both in terms of African American racism (Cracker), and in terms of inter-demographic socio-economic (White Trash). Go figure. Although prior to the arrival of the first African American to run for the Presidency, let alone get elected, one might have thought that yes, pockets of racism existed, however, that was past and the past was behind us.

This is speaking from the experience of a young blond child, being held by her Spanish father, at a Union event in the 1950’s, where epitaphs of “Colored” were bandied about in relationship to a “dark man” holding a “blonde baby”. One was either white, or not. It was one of those memories that always puzzled, as one would not think color of the skin would enter into the scheme of things. It was always a question of competence of the individual.

Fast forward through the 1960’s through 1990’s and with laws in place, diversified workplaces, and schools and colleges, and one would think nothing of anyone other than by their own merit. Then in 2007 and 2008, the world was, once again, made aware that there was “racism” in this nation. Who knew? If one said something negative about an individual running for office, such as pertaining to experience, they were racist. Oddly enough, some were thinking that with the experience, and then Candidate Barack Obama had, was hauntingly similar to one Jimmy Carter (White Southern Baptist), which made many leery of voting for then Candidate Obama.

Fast forward 4 years, again, after 4 years of a stagnant economy, and for many differences in political ideology – that same Barack Obama was reelected. Nothing has changed for the better, in fact, with the roll-out of Obama Care, and the rank incompetence displayed by those who were hired to do the job; the President is surprised that his poll numbers have dropped. It must be racism.

The problem lays in the fact that fewer people today believe that race plays a factor, in hiring, or otherwise (gender, different story), therefore, when one is say a boss, and things go wrong, the boss is to blame, the further up the rung one sits, the proverbial flake falls upward. Since the President if visible, then he is the target of angst for all things economic and political that may go wrong with his administration.

To point out demographically speaking, the elections of 2008 and 2012, one finds that everyone who voted as “categorized” – (as in every election)

In 2008, the Republican’s ran John McCain (no confidence) against the rising star of the Democrat Party, Barack Obama: who won a majority of the women, African American, Asian, Other, Youth, etc. in all categories except for “white”. In that instance he lost 12 points to McCain, one might wish to scream racism, but is it even entirely possible that those 12 points were Republican Brand Votes, or fear of Jimmy Carter returning votes? In 2012, the Republican’s ran Mitt Romney (a slightly younger version of John McCain, but not by much), Oddly enough, the Democrat, although winning, lost across points across all demographics, yet still won the election. (National Journal On line). One might suggest that had Evangelical and Tea Party prejudices not hampered Romney, the political scene would be different.

The problem with assuming Race as a factor is that one truly does not know. Unless one is polling every voting station in the country – and asking if racism played a part, one does not know that vote were cast based on a) political affiliation) or b) political ideal logy) or c)someone just wants somebody new.

Therefore, one might conclude, that Racism, is playing a very minor factor (admitting it exists), and to the larger extent, it is a condemnation of the job performance.

Up next, gender – Women, who are a majority (minority in pay equity), may see a woman run for President in 2016. One might suggest that this woman would succeed if that woman can connect to the majority of the voters on competence. One might also think that the vote will not go to a woman who has little to no experience in government, based on the fact that the public has “been down that road”. With more individuals identifying themselves as no party affiliatin (or independent) – at a staggering 42%, one might see a totally different schematic play out. However, having a brand, in this opinion, a strong brand,(as in Party Leadership), one might as well save their campaign cash or run for another office. Assuming 42% of the voter, identify with someone running as a Democrat or Republican who is more Libertarian, green party, or even disantace themselves from the major brand, that individual should, it follows, be elected. A doctor, perhaps, or someone who runs a business, and one, who has not been in office for decades, but a decent length of time, say at least one full term. Icing on the cake, someone disliked by both parties “leadership”. There are several that fit this mold, but, as it is too soon to tell who will or will not run (next year – during the midterms the process should begin). Now, whether that individual is a man, a woman, African American, Hispanic, what have you, will not matter, it will be their personal ideology that counts, no matter how wacky – or perhaps because how wacky the Party power brokers believe the to be.

As to the President, it matters not what race he is, it matters only that he is being seen as fixing the problem. Additionally, historically few if any incumbents have fabulous approval ratings in their 2nd term.

So Much for Unity – Clinton Supporters In Orlando Deface City Cars

So much for party unity – not a day after the Clinton/Obama Unity speech, vandals in the City of Orlando let their feelings about Barrack Obama be known. Frankly, “Obama Smokes Crack” does not appear to be a racial slur, rather a fact taken from his own life story. That said, this type of overt display of affection is patently ridiculous. Is there racism in this country, only that driven by the media, and to get the media’s attention, these supporters used this method to point to their unease with Obama. The only press this has been given, so far, is local in nature. How would the party line of unity that is so zealously embraced by the media hold up should these types of acts be reported, or worse, continued across the country. A note: racial slurs have been on the rise, but those are coming from one party in particular – the party that is the most divisive, the party of Jefferson. Ironic is it not? ORLANDO, Fla. -- Racial slurs targeting Barack Obama were discovered spray painted Saturday night on dozens of city vehicles in Orlando. The vandalism happened in a City of Orlando parking lot on the corner of South and Orange.
Phrases including "Oboma smoks crack" and other phrases with racial slurs were written in blue spraypaint on the white city cars and trucks. Other vehicles appeared to have had their gas tanks tampered with.
Along with the paint, hundreds of business cards were left on windshields. The cards contain criticism of Obama on one side and support for Hillary Clinton and her family on the other side. The same cards were left on Channel 9 vehicles in Daytona Beach several weeks ago.
The vandalism happened the same night the Obama campaign kicked off its Florida organization with parties across the state.
Local representatives with the Obama campaign told Channel 9 they weren't aware of any similar incidents.

McCain vs. Obama - Age and Race Poll at CBS - Opinion

McCain and Clinton - crossing party lines - Age and Gender a Factor?

Does age or race really matter in the day to day lives of average American’s when it comes to picking a president? CBS News conducted a poll which asked those two questions and the answer (according to CBS) is definitely – yes. That said, when looking at a neighbor, pastor, police officer, school teacher, doctor, nurse, or other person upon whom one must rely in a life-promoting or life-threatening situation – neither race, ethnicity, (which are parallel), gender, age, or religious affiliation seem to matter. Why then, is there such a focus on these issues during this 2008 election cycle. Does racism (add ethnicity) exist in America? Of course it does – because it is taught at the university level (college courses abound on race and its significance), it is perpetuated through our music (rap specifically), our media (program aimed at targeting – it exists at all levels – whether a person is Hispanic, Black, Asian), and now, it is brought up daily by the news outlets – the later because it sells. – Friction between race and gender, like a car crash, is news. One would think, given the homogonous society in which we live, entrusting the care of our children and our lives to individuals of varied ethnic and racial backgrounds, that race would be a non-issue.

When it comes to choosing a president – the reality of the situation for the most part (giving that poll a generous 10% credence) is that neither race, nor age really matters – it is all about the Party - the political experience and the ideology of a particular candidate.

Gender and religious affiliation, on the other hand, have played a significant role in this particular election cycle. The “news” outlets consistently referred to Hillary Clinton in the most denigrating gender based reporting seen since Geraldine Ferraro was chosen as Walter Mondale’s VP; only in Clinton’s case it was far more blatant and far more frequent. Mike Huckabee, the former Governor of Arkansas, was consistently introduced in print articles and in broadcasts as: a Baptist Minister, with no or late mention of the fact that he was a 2-1/2 term successful Governor of the state of Arkansas.

Now the focus has shifted, and McCain and Obama are treated daily to comments regarding race and age. So, does it really matter? Try this simple poll with neighbors, family and friends: McCain or Obama – which one and why? The answers are varied, but what it comes down to is experience and trust. One might hear the following:
Re: Obama – “We don’t’ really know much about him, how can we trust him?” He’s a Democrat, but too far left”, “The Party shoved him down our throats” “He’s too guarded in his statements – not natural”. On McCain: “He’s not Obama” (No kidding), “He’s got the experience”, “I think he’ll continue to reach across the aisle and get some work done” The Respondents (this is Massachusetts): Independents and Democrats. (The lone Republican was asking the questions).

Neither age nor race was considered – Also, of note: neither candidate was a first choice which was made clear. People do agree that it is time for a change, but feel that little has changed in the quality of candidate. The only factor that is a bit different this election cycle from the last is that one party has been left far more divided that the other. It remains to be seen how the obvious “witch hunt” (irony), within the party vise a vise Hillary Clinton will impact the outcome of the general election. All of this is a bit premature, as neither political party has gone through the convention process (rather a moot point one would think), where the polls generally reflect a “bounce” or increase in interest, for each Party’s nominee. Once that dust settles and October rolls around, the real issues will come to the forefront, whether it is economics or national security, and who is more trusted to lead their party and the country for the betterment of the nation. It will not be a vote against one or the others race and/or age, rather the vote will be against or for the political affiliation and personal ideology of the candidate.

Vogue - Fashion, Fanfare and Racial Profiling

In the media rush to make all things racist, the latest victim appears to be one of fashion – Vogue, the magazine known for its coverage of the fashion industry, has apparently chosen the wrong cover shot (according to those who knows the face of racism). In a country where race, gender, ethnicity, et al, ad nausea, should no longer be an issue, some extremely sensitive individuals are continuing to hammer home the message that American’s are generally biased, racists. Vogue’s April issue depicts two athletes on the cover, one male and one female – when first looking at the cover, one can appreciate the athletic overtone – regardless of race – however, Samir Husni, a magazine analyst (a what?) – considered the photo to be deliberately insensitive and then went on in the ap article (here at CBS3 Springfield, MA on the web) to go into his analysis with details that are: racists.

Apparently, with Barack Obama in the race for the presidency – Race is an issue, not because it truly is an issue, it is being made into an issue: from the left – from the progressives and the elite who hold themselves above the rest of the little people, comes a daily reminder that: “yes, you are”, a racist. This includes a remark made during a speech by the candidate Obama decrying: racism by “Typical White People”

Does this racism truly exist? Most assuredly, along with gender bias and, in this particular 2008 contest, ageism! (John McCain, older than dirt!)

Those in the media, that are looking for stories that are on the salacious side, have found race to be an issue that can be milked for all its worth. American’s should be offended, deeply offended by anyone today who brings race to the forefront with any type of blanket statement. This is not the 1960’s – that decade has come and gone. Does racism, gender bias and ageism, along with a host of other isms, exists? Most assuredly. Those prejudices will be manifested in the voting booth, in private, but by many or merely by a few, that is the question. The current crop of presidential contenders should not be assessed by race, gender or age, but by how progressive or conservative they claim to be. Joe and Jane America could care less if one is black, female or older than Methuselah, they care about issues, or they vote a straight party ticket. This constant drumbeat by those that would set our nation back to an era of division, by creating division in blanket statements is unconscionable.
