John Kerry – Kerry In Your Corner Tour – Massachusetts Senate Race.

John Kerry, Junior Senator, Massachusetts (D) is making another rare appearance in Massachusetts to campaign for re-election to the US Senate (Tenure - 24 years). An article in the Boston Herald notes that Kerry will be accompanied by Local Elected Officials while he walks around Lowell’s Canal District - proceeding from there to Lawrence for a stroll through the business district. Earlier this year, Kerry made an appearance in Western Mass., visiting the cities of Northampton and Springfield, again, accompanied by local elected officials. Stopping by a coffee shop and visiting with constituents does not appear to be on the Senator’s agenda. A visit to the Senator’s Campaign Website John Kerry.com also does not list a “Kerry In Your Corner” itinerary giving his constituents a heads-up on where he may be showing up next. His website does include selective video from the Mass. Democrat Convention, where he was assured he would handily walk away with the nomination, thereby freeing up his summer for other pursuits, more national in scope. Things did not work out the way Kerry had planned.

Recently on CBS Face the Nation Kerry, stumping for Barak Oabma, referred to John McCain, the Republican Presidential Nominee, as a Flip Flopper, whose judgment is “Dangerous”. It may appear, to Massachusetts locals that Kerry is more interested in being in the national spotlight than hobnobbing with the locals – he has made 3 appearances in Massachusetts since April related to his campaign. He has made hundreds of national appearances however, in support of Barack Obama. There may be a reason that his visits are brief and that he is surrounded by “Elected Officials” when he does set foot in Massachusetts – an overwhelming majority of Massachusetts Democrats voted for Senator Hillary Clinton in the February primary - not Barack Obama, who Kerry chose to support over the wishes of his constituents. This also may be why Ed O’Reilly, a Gloucester Lawyer, against all odds, received more than the necessary 15% of the votes at the Democrat Convention to become the first Democrat to challenge Kerry since he took office.

Amazingly, Policker MA.com suggests that Kerry has a comfortable Lead against the Republican challenger, Jeff Beatty. This analysis is somewhat questionable. First, Kerry led Beatty by 62 percent in a previous poll, and is now down to 58%, which one would think comfortable for Kerry. However, factor that this poll was taken when Jim Ogonowski was still in the Republican race against Beatty and 44% of the respondents had no opinion (or knowledge of) Jeff Beatty. That is a problem with polling data over a month old being released as “news”. More over, Jim Ogonowski left the race in early June and Jeff Beatty has been crisscrossing the state, building a strong grassroots campaign and getting a good deal of press, especially on the NECN network. He has not yet begun to roll out campaign ads. A Suffolk University poll, differed from the Rasmussen Poll in both length of time to publish the poll and in results. The Suffolk Poll suggested that 51% of the state voters were ready for someone different in that Kerry held seat. Additionally, this poll did not mention names of those who might compete against Kerry for the seat.

Kerry’s visit with Local Elected Officials coupled with dismal polling data, suggests that his tenure as Senator may be over this November. Granted, he does have the money, but, that said, residents of Massachusetts just watched Mitt Romney spend millions in a failed presidential bid against candidates who ran on a shoestring. In some instances, Money can’t buy love nor votes. One must spend time with the “masses” in order to succeed.

His appearances in Mass. are not rare. It's just not all of them are reported.

He never called McCain dangerous. That is a distortion (thank you, AP).

Read the transcript yourself:

http://www.cbsnews.com/htdocs/pdf/FTN_070608.pdf

Sen. KERRY: I'm challenging Senator McCain's judgment, his judgment that says there's no violence history between Sunni and Shia. That's wrong. His judgment that says this is going to increase the stability of the Middle East. It hasn't. It's made it less stable. The judgment that says this will, quote "This will be the best thing for America and the world in a long time."

SCHIEFFER: All right.

Sen. KERRY: It's the worst thing that we've done in a long time.

SCHIEFFER: All right.

Sen. KERRY: And he's turned his eye away from Afghanistan and al-Qaeda and made America less safe.

SCHIEFFER: All right.

Sen. KERRY: That's dangerous for our country.

All of Kerry’s – or rather Teresa’s – money cannot buy back his squandered honor. He has lied under oath to Congress, called our fighting men murderers and barbarians [Vietnam] and uneducated [Iraq]- given aide and comfort to our enemies in two wars, - and wandered about various world capitols speaking ill of our country.

If he had a shred of honor this would be a vacancy election. But he has none, - so he will have to be voted out of office. The time is here!

Why, Hello Again, Beachmom - I continue to politely disagree with your position. Point Number 1) John Kerry is a national figure, if he is in Massachusetts it is reported - especially if it is for a campaign stop. If you have John Kerry sightings, documented, feel free to post them. He's fairly easy to track considering not a day goes by that he isn't grabbing a headline for Obama, that includes weekends, outside of Massachusetts. Windsurfing off the Cape does not count.
#2 - I have the entire interviw available in the post below this one (in case you missed it) - You may want to research a bit further - The Title of the Post is: John Kerry - Defends Barak Obama's Flip Flops - two videos included in the post, two points of view. Indisputable.

Iron Mike! Thank you for your Service! I appreciate your taking the time to comment. Tina RFH

Tina, America, et als,

The real point is not what Kerry said on any given day – or where he was or wasn’t.

The point is that he was and is a bombastic ego-driven camera-hunting motor-mouth, with a LIFE HISTORY of saying anything [and voting ANY position] he thinks will advance his career. I have YET to meet a GI who doesn’t loathe him. They wouldn’t even sit at his table in Iraq.

Thank GOD we have Jeff Beatty, - a man who understands the issues and who will speak, act, and vote for what’s best for Mass and for America, without regard to any political ambitions.

Well, I just disagree with your characterization that Kerry said McCain's judgment was dangerous. He said taking his eye off Afghanistan and Pakistan was dangerous. But agree to disagree.

Kerry has been in Mass. making appearances for quite some time. That is why the pro-Kerry site "KerryVision" has a category "At home in Mass" with a lot of posts:

http://www.kerryvision.net/at_home_in_mass/

And the site did not get started until last year, so there are many many more appearances in Mass. post 2004.

Hello Iron Mike and Beach Mom!

Iron Mike, point taken elections are about character that said and playing devils advocate, career politicians change their minds constantly, just some more than others. Regarding the military it is quite understandable that they loath Kerry when he testified at the Senate Hearings vis--vis Viet Nam, he hurt the both those that were in-country, veterans and the regular folk. Personal story: I bought into Kerrys position; in my naivet until 1972 at the conventions in Miami, when I met a group of veterans who were kind enough to listen to my anti-war sentiments and then, took the time to explain their position, who they were, why they fought, what the war was like for them - giving me a lesson in patriotism and an absolute admiration for the men and women who serve our nation. I was terribly ashamed that I had listened to those who had a personal agenda, and did not look past the national figure. Fool me once. Jeff Beatty is a breath of fresh air and he connects with the people but has an obvious affinity for those who serve and have served.

Beach Mom! We shall agree to disagree I admire your heartfelt and fervent support for the Senator. What I have found lately, is that when one engages in polite discourse it allows for exploration of common ground, especially when it comes to what is best for our children and our families, and those on both sides of the political spectrum often agree more than they disagree.

Thank you for the link to your website. I honestly had no idea it existed, so to be fair, I am placing a link to the Kerry Vision website under Perspective Links. He has received national press, through your efforts. (That is not to say by my posting a link on this site.) Regardless of the newness of the site, I stand corrected, he has been in Massachusetts, and it is documented at KerryVision, more than is reported in the bigger daily papers. There are some touching posts, especially the one about his appearance with Michael Dukakis to dedicate a pool to help children with Autism. However, for someone taking a center to right of center political stance and looks for a politician that actually interacts with his or her constituents. Moreover, the sites affiliation with Moveon.org, Media Matters and the Democratic Underground, may hurt the Senator, especially when it comes to those who vote as independents (startling 51% of the Massachusetts Voters!). When it comes to supporting a candidate, regardless of the position, I look at the record and what they have done to better the lives of the people of the Nation, or the State or District they represent right down to the municipal level - and then I vote or support dependent upon the work done, as well as how closely the individual has either supported or opposed issues that I hold to be of import. Ive crossed party lines on occasion. Beach moms, keep an open mind, and please continue to post.
