Rand Paul, Ted Cruz and Tom Udall – Understanding Nation Weary of War and the Risks of Grandstanding in the Middle East.
Ted Cruz and Rand Paul shown above in photo from U.S. News
From: US News and World Report - an article detailing the objections of certain Libertarian minded Republicans and Democrats, who wish to take more care in sending American Military into yet another conflict in the Middle East.(US News) Although the headline suggests this article is about the schism between old-guard hawks and a new breed of Republicans, it misses the main point – that Paul and Udell, a Democrat, co-sponsored a bill that would prevent funding of such a war effort. Cruz has notably stood against involvement in the Syrian conflict.
It is interesting in that the Middle East, in a never ending series of battles over the past 5000 years, has in the later centuries been subject to some intervention, and generally speaking, it does not turn out so well for the interveners. It is one thing if a nation were to directly attack the U.S. and did the Taliban in 2001, however, as the wars progressed, it became increasingly clear that the public has to taste for more of the same, and the treasury is also not in the best of shape, given the demands made by the entitlement society which it supports.
That said there were many a chance “missed” in these adventures, such as encouragement from the sidelines in the 2009 Iranian Revolution, which fell flat with zero support from the U.S. Had those students fighting for a more sectarian Iran have succeeded, one wonders if that would have settled the region, even somewhat. Iran being the agitator between Lebanon to Damascus to Iraq – it is an opportunity lost and the results of cozying up to those one might not understand, has also cost the U.S., given Egypt as an example – encouraging a radical group such as the Muslim Brotherhood, was a mistake, to further support their involvement in a fledgling Democracy – which immediately became a theocracy – was simply stupid. One might argue, had they been left to their own devices, the U.S. would have another friendly Democracy in the Middle East. One must count Israel, who has been the U.S. Ally for a century and is now – not so much- or so it would appear.
These men are not necessarily the face of any one party; rather they are the face of common sense – which in a time of economic turmoil and a weary nation is the best medicine. Send strongly worded speeches and platitudes and/or arm those fighting to the teeth – rather than let the world know the US. will be bombing again. It rings hollow. A no fly zone, and some food, clothing, munitions would better serve the efforts of those who would be free.

The Way Out of Obamacare – Defund – The Republican Base Approval of Cruz Plan On the Move – 2014 – Change is Coming
Sarah Palin on the Stump for Cruz in Texas - image from legalinsurrection.com
Senator Ted Cruz of Texas has been suggesting that the budget of the U.S. could move forward without funding Obama Care (or the Affordable Health Care Act), and on that point he is correct. The Government, contrary to what is being touted by the Administration would not come to a screeching halt. Most recently support has been growing form the more Conservative wing of the Republican Base as evidenced by Sarah Palin lending her support to Cruz’s drive to Defund the behemoth program(Examiner) Palin still holds considerable sway with the base, however, she is not alone in her endorsement of the plan. George P. Bush of the Texas Bush family also supports the plan (burtorangereport). The option of defunding the program through a budgetary procedure would give a way out to those in the Congress from both sides of the aisle that are now uncertain as to the value of the plan. (See Politico: Democrats fret over Obamacare as 2014 looms” (Politico)
What those members of both parties who support the plan, without hesitation on both sides of the aisle may have cause for concern. The latest Rasmussen Polling on the subject finds that 42% of Republicans are in favor of shutting down the government (which is not technically what Cruz is proposing) in order to rid the country of that program. (Rasmussen Reports) Rasmussen polled Republican leaning voters for this survey, had the polled Democrat leaning voters, the question remains – would they also have been as willing to shut it down? More than likely – as jobs are scarce, and employers who are reducing benefits and hours are not shy about telling employees the reason behind their hard decisions – Obamacare. One might suggest those workers are not all Republicans.
Those most in danger of losing their jobs in Washington are those Senators and Congressional Representatives who do not support a shutdown – in fear of becoming unpopular (i.e. unelectable) with the press, and by extension the public. They should rethink that strategy as primaries will loom and the press and general public are not likely to vote. It will be fairly easy to predict some mightily upheaval on the Republican side of the aisle should those August (installed for life) members of both Chambers are ousted in favor of a candidate who will do the job that is in the best interest of the public, not the best interest of the party or for personal gain. One might suggest the same will occur on the opposite side of the aisle, as the base of the Democrat Party has become more progressively left – those who even smack of moderate will face challenges. If one thinks there is division now, wait until the dust settles after the 2014 election – and this is one issue that will drive the debate on both sides.

Eugenics – Alive and Well in California – The left and the cost of living – abortions, sterilizations and death panels
Eu
There is an article of interest at Red State today: The title:” Coerced Sterilization In California Prisons”, written by a contributor: streiff The article is worth the read as it reminds some of us that a tad older, of the acceptance by some in society of a time one would have though, would have been long gone – the age of eliminating those in society who were considered – less than human.
It is not a shock to those who have studied American History to any extent, that there are government and private agencies that were proponents of Eugenics. However, what is disturbing is that the belief is still held by some in authority today, and the rest of the nation is oblivious.
Eugenics: as defined by the Merriam-Webster dictionary online: “a science that deals with the improvement (as by control of human mating) of hereditary qualities of a race or breed”.
Boil that down to those the hold the belief that anyone who presents a disability, or a non-desirable trait, be it physical, psychological, ethnicity, race or religion, should be either imprisoned, or eliminated entirely. The belief that those who are ‘perfect’ by their own standards, have the ability to take a life, or main an individual or imprison an individual or hold back care for an individual suggests that they are in need of therapy. Unfortunately, the inmates, in this case are running the asylum.
Eugenics and its proponents, include well known historical figures such as Margaret Stanger, the founder of planned parenthood – a woman who held the belief that through the use of sterilization and abortion, the nation would rid itself of undesirable groups. (PBS) In the Red State article that discusses the use of sterilization in California prisons today – by force, not consent of the patient is astounding.
It does not take a leap of the imagination or some modest study, to find that those who are behind mass abortions, sterilizations and programs that provide a fee in exchange for individuals who are drug addicted to have either abortions or be sterilized, are targeting women. These same organizations are, in the same instance, controlling the population by weeding out those they consider undesirable and preventing those who might lack genetic perfection from reproducing.
The slippery slope, at first an antiquated term such as eugenics, and the process of eliminating non-desirable groups through either forced sterilization or abortion, primarily in the name of economics, the State and Human perfection, with current laws in place advocating “death panels” in national health care mandates, the ability for those who are in the position and hold eugenic ideologies, to withhold care from the elderly, the disabled, those who are less than perfect, now exists.
