Going to the Dogs - Massachusetts New Taxes!
The Commonwealth, ever searching for the next dollar it can squeeze from those that work for a living, has a new plan to levy taxes and rules on Pet owners in the State, an additional Tax on Dogs. It is clearly one of the most ridiculous proposals to come out of that asylum known as the Massachusetts Legislature, in at least a week.
Senate Bill 186 commonwealth of Massachusetts (PDF). This Bill suggests that anyone having more than 3 or 4 dogs, have a kennel license or those who do not, may want to consider one. The suggested fees for each Town/Municipality will rise to $3 to $50 (for an intact dog) annually, $3 of which will be kicked back to the State. These fees, originally intended to help a spay and neuter program, only give only a portion of the sum collected to that endeavor. Additionally, the bill also includes fines for non-compliance to the Commonwealth, much like fees levied on taxpayers who cannot afford Massachusetts current bankrupt Health Care System. Perhaps the funds are needed to cover the growing cost of putting up homeless families in hotels (now at several million per month).
In today’s economy, the fact that the State is collecting an additional 25% on every item one purchases for one’s pet, and those that live on fixed incomes (the elderly particularly) and rely on their companions, this is the despicable added burden. One has to wonder what the Democrats (otherwise known as professional legislators, on Beacon Hill will do next? Tax one’s children?!

Tina, this is typical of the modern democrat. They are in this day and age a free person's enemy. I use to be one years ago but the only thing they do not do marxist is formally embrace the philosophy.
Hopefully, the people of Mass. will kill this bill through outrage.
Hi Ralph, I used to be one too, was a real torchbearer for Carter, collected signatures half-way across the state of Florida for his windfall profit tax on oil companies, and you know, was a basic “power to the people” hippie (also, daughter of a union activist – who I believe, would not recognize his Party today). It is exactly the stupid and ridiculous legislation that comes from some (not all, to be credibly fair, there are Democrats who are my father’s Democrats), of these characters – from Washington, and especially the crazies in Massachusetts – this is already a done deal – there is no further action required, as far as I can tell. Just another avenue to nickel and dime those who are left, and Massachusetts is losing population – we are in the process of losing a congressional street, discussions and maneuvering re: which district will be eliminated and who gets what have been ongoing – they don’t, for some reason, understand that people move because of the policies (resulting in lack of jobs, etc.) that they implement. Unfortunately, we cannot, as a nation, move to another country (ok, we could, but…I believe in the power of the vote and the ability to change- which, brings me to my conversion – Ronald Reagan, I am the epitome of a Reagan Democrat. One I made an educated comparative analysis of the differences between conservative run government (less is more, carry a big stick, and stick to your guns), versus the liberal (social programs for everyone, tax, tax, tax, bailout, and tax some more – misery indexes, gas lines, and specifically a denigration of our defenses both at home and abroad….) you know, it was a no-brainer to start seriously looking at conservatives as one of the only options. Ralph, although Regan is no longer the driving force, I believe there are more of us today, making this conversion, that there were in the late 1970’s.
Tina, I fully agree with your synopsis of what "liberalism" really means to productive individuals and hope there are others, like us, who will see them for what they are. I have been a voter for 47 years and there has never been a democrat governor elected in the three states I have lived in (or any others I have read about) that did not a) promise not to raise taxes during the campaign and b) raise them as soon as they took office. Only an idiot could vote for these people.
Of course, just my own humble opinion.
This state is a joke. They tax everything and have gone too far. During these hard times all families are tightening their belts. You would expect the same of the government. However, they continue to spend. Duval Patrick has grown government 3 billion dollars since he's been in office. He is the worst governor ever. Keep voting these yahoo's into office and you will quickly realize you will no longer afford your home.
Tax on my dogs insolin ,82 years and only thing I have may have to give her up
